Mesh on real roofs

Solar panel bird proofing is a mesh fitted along the open edges of the panel array that keeps birds out of the gap between the panels and the roof. The mesh clips to the panel frame without drilling into the panels, and it can be removed for cleaning or panel service.
Why birds nest under panels
The gap under a solar array is shaded, dry and out of the wind, which is what a pigeon wants. Once birds settle, you get:
- Droppings and nest debris building up under and around the panels.
- Material that blocks gutters and valleys.
- Noise and smell, and mites that can move into the house.
- Cables chewed or fouled.

How we fit the mesh
- Clear the nest. If birds are already in, we remove the debris first. Check local rules on protected species before disturbing active nests.
- Measure the perimeter. We cut mesh to the array edge.
- Clip it to the frame. Clips hold the mesh against the panel frame. We do not drill into the panels.
- Close the gaps. We check the ends, corners and the join to the roof.
- Photograph the result. You see the finished edge.

Why we do not drill
Drilling a panel frame can damage the panel and may void the maker's warranty. Clip-on mesh avoids both. It also comes off if a panel needs service.
Small and large arrays
The job grows with the length of edge to cover, so price follows the array size and the roof access. Send us a photo of the array and the roof type and we can say what the job involves.

Combine it with other work
If birds have been in the roof for a while, the gutters and valleys probably hold debris. We can clean the gutters at the same visit and check the roof. Solar installers often leave the gap open, so bird mesh is worth fitting before the nesting season.

Questions about solar panel bird proofing
Does bird mesh affect my solar warranty?
Clip-on mesh does not drill into the panels. Check your panel and installer warranty terms to be sure, since conditions differ.
Will the mesh reduce panel output?
Mesh sits below the panel edge, not over the glass, so it does not shade the cells.
Can you remove existing nests?
Yes. We clear nest material before we fit the mesh. Some native birds are protected, so tell us what you have seen.
How long does it take?
A typical array takes a few hours. Larger or awkward roofs take longer.
Do you only do tile roofs?
Tell us about your roof. Tile and metal roofs both take mesh, but fixing details differ.
